(Photo by David Eulitt/Getty Images) SOURCE: David Eulitt</figcaption></figure>KANSAS CITY, Mo. — For a third-straight season, the Cincinnati Bengals are 0-2 to start a campaign after falling to the Kansas City Chiefs, 26-25, Sunday evening in Kansas City, Missouri.Harrison Butker, who signed a four-year, $25.6 million dollar contract this past offseason, was the hero for the home team, nailing a 51-yard field goal as time expired to walk the home team off with a 26-25 victory.The Bengals have not won a Week 2 game since 2018, when Cincinnati beat Baltimore 34-23 on Thursday night.Butker's game-winning kick was set up by a pass interference penalty against Daijahn Anthony, who was covering Rashee Rice deep. Rice was the intended target for Patrick Mahomes on a desperation throw down the field on fourth down that, if a flag hadn't been thrown, would have sealed a victory for the Bengals.The Bengals and Chiefs matched scores throughout most of the first half, starting with a pair of field goals in the first quarter that ended long drives.Cincinnati marched 66 yards in 10 plays before Evan McPherson hit a 22-yard field goal, while the Chiefs answered with a 16-play, 69-yard drive that ended with a 19-yard field goal, tying the game at 3-3.The Bengals offense failed to respond to the Chiefs’ score, going three-and-out, but Cincinnati’s defense made the first game-swinging play of the day, when Akeem Davis-Gaither picked off Mahomes, who was targeting former Cincinnati Bearcat Travis Kelce across the middle, to set the Bengals up inside Chiefs territory.Cincinnati’s offense responded seven plays later, when Joe Burrow hit Andrei Iosivas at the front of the end zone for the game’s first touchdown, giving the Bengals a 10-3 lead.It was the first passing touchdown of the season for the Cincinnati offense, and the first for Burrow since last November.Kansas City didn’t take long to respond, however, as the Chiefs tied it on a 44-yard pitch-and-catch from Mahomes to Rice, making for a 10-10 game.McPherson nailed two more field goals - one from 33 yards and another from 48 yards - to give Cincinnati a 16-10 halftime lead.The Chiefs opened the second half with a 13-play, 70-yard touchdown drive, that ended with a touchdown pass to offensive lineman Wanya Morris and gave the home squad a 17-16 lead.Cincinnati didn't take long to respond.On the Bengals' first play of the second half, Burrow connected with rookie Jermaine Burton on a 47-yard pass play, which set the Bengals up at KC's 25.On the next play, the Bengals moved inside the Chiefs' 15, and struggled to move the ball from there, running nine more plays, seven of which came from inside the five.The opportunity didn't go to waste though, as Burrow connected with Iosivas for his second touchdown of the day.McPherson missed the extra point, however, which kept the Bengals' lead at five points, 22-17.It was that same score in the closing seconds of the third quarter, and the Chiefs were looking to push the ball downfield when Mahomes, trying to set the Chiefs up in Bengals territory, targeted Xavier Worthy inside the Bengals' 40 along the sideline. After throwing two incompletions, Burrow tried to roll out of a collapsing pocket on third down, but was taken down and lost the football in the process.Kansas City’s Chamarri Conner picked the bill up and returned it for a 38-yard scoop and score, giving the Chiefs a 23-22 lead.On the ensuing drive, the Bengals marched down to the Chiefs’ 30, but an sportsmanlike conduct penalty was called on Cincinnati wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who got in the face of an official for not calling a hip-drop tackle.The penalty put the Bengals at a 3rd and 22 and, after a 10-yard gain from Mike Gesicki, Evan McPherson hit a 53-yard field goal to put the Bengals back in front, 25-23.Kansas City and Cincinnati traded punts, with the Chiefs getting the ball back with 2:35 left to play, leading to KC's game winning drive. In lieu of having the services of Tee Higgins for a second-straight game, Joe Burrow relied heavily on the tight end trio of Mike Gesicki, Drew Sample and Erick All Jr. who combined for 14 receptions and 151 yards, nine of those catches and 113 of those yards came in the first half alone. It was Gesicki who led the individual receiving threat for the Bengals, catching seven passes for 91 yards.Ja'Marr Chase ended the day with four receptions on five targets for 35 yards.Sunday marked the second-career multi-touchdown game for Iosivas, and the first since last year's season finale against Cleveland.For Burrow, it marked the first time he has thrown for multiple touchdowns in the same game since last year against the Texans (Nov. 12, 2023). He finished the game throwing for 246 yards, completing 23 of his 36 pass attempts.The Bengals' defense held Mahomes to just 151 yards passing and 29 yards rushing.In total, Cincinnati outgained Kansas city, 320-286, and won the time of possession 31:29-28:31.Cincinnati now looks ahead to Week 3, where they'll attempt to pick up their first win of the 2024 season on Monday Night Football against the Washington Commanders.</div></body>
