Everyone Saying Same Thing About QB Russell Wilson After Steelers' 2nd Straight Win

The Pittsburgh Steelers entered the regular season with a bonafide quarterback controversy, though that discussion may now be over after just two games.

Pittsburgh named Russell Wilson its starting QB ahead of Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons , though Wilson ended up sidelined for that contest with a calf injury.

Justin Fields stepped into the starting role and led the Steelers to a road victory. The fourth-year QB out of Ohio State accomplished the same thing in Colorado against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, September 15, which pushed Pittsburgh to 2-0 and raised serious questions about whether Wilson will ever get a chance to start in black and gold.

"This throw got called back, but man ... I can't watch Justin Fields so far today and think, 'Yeah, Russell Wilson would be better than this,'" Jacob Infante of Windy City Gridiron , who covered Fields during the QB's time with the Chicago Bears , posted to X.

It wasn't just media members on Sunday who put voice to the notion that Fields should be the starter moving forward.

"Justin Fields isn't giving the starting QB job back to Russell Wilson," one fan captioned a video of Fields making a big play.

"Russell Wilson is never playing for the Steelers," another person chimed in on X .

"There's no way Russell Wilson takes over the starter job," a third fan wrote .

Fields has not been spectacular under center by any stretch over the last two games, completing 30-of-43 passes for 273 yards and 1 TD in both contests combined. He has also rushed the football 22 times for 84 yards and taken 4 total sacks.

That said, Pittsburgh is winning football games -- and doing so away from home. Even if Wilson is healthy and ready to go for Week 3 against the Los Angeles Chargers in the Steelers' home opener, it is hard to envision head coach Mike Tomlin going away from what's working simply for the sake of making a change.

As such, if Fields can keep effectively managing games and avoiding major mistakes -- he has 2 fumbles but zero turnovers thus far this season -- Wilson may be cheering from the sideline for the remainder of the year.
