Patrick Mahomes Reacts to Controversial 4th Quarter Penalty Call

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs benefitted from a fourth-quarter penalty on Sunday, defeating the Cincinnati Bengals, 26-25, on a 51-yard walk-off field goal by Harrison Butker.

Four plays prior, referees threw a late flag for defensive pass interference against Bengals safety Daijahn Anthony, who contacted Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice prior to the ball arriving.

The 29-yard penalty converted a potential game-ending fourth-and-16 for Kansas City and moved the defending Super Bowl champions into deep field goal range.

After the game, Mahomes took the podium and shared a pretty blunt reaction to the controversial call.

"As I scrambled to the left, I saw Rashee (Rice) open," Mahomes told reporters on September 15. "I knew it was going to be contested, but you've got to put the ball up. Rashee did a great job of trying to get the ball. I haven't seen the replay or anything, but I felt the dude was there pretty early and we got the flag."

The officiating crew received plenty of backlash on social media for the decision.

Mahomes did not have an elite statistical performance on Sunday, finishing the game with only 151 yards on 18-of-25 passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Kansas City, now 2-0 on the season, will face the Atlanta Falcons on "Sunday Night Football" in Week 3. Kickoff is set for 8:20 p.m. ET on September 29 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The problem is that it becomes standard that the Chiefs : get the flags always when needed.
