Minshew Mania is alive and well: Raiders QB cements starting spot after upset win

The Las Vegas Raiders ' quarterback situation could best be described as fluid going into the Week 2 game against the Baltimore Ravens , as one or two bad games could lead to the team going from Gardner Minshew to Aidan O'Connell.

And it looked to be heading in that direction after Minshew tossed an ugly pick in the second quarter that was a reminder of how up-and-down the veteran signal-caller can be. Ultimately, the Raiders left the first half with just six points and no touchdowns.

It was an ominous sign for an offense that could only muster up 10 points the week before. Thankfully, the defense was able to hold up its end of the bargain and the Raiders were only down 9-6 going into the third quarter.

But the second half was a different story for Minshew, who completed 16-of-23 passes for 229 yards and one touchdown. In all, the Raiders scored on each of their final four drives of the second half after the opening series.

Las Vegas was trailing 23-13 when Minshew got the ball back a little over 12 minutes left in the game. He then proceeded to lead the Raiders on a seven-play, 64-yard drive that resulted in a field goal, and then a nine-play, 70-yard drive that went for a touchdown to tie the game.

After tying the game, the Raiders got the ball back following another failed Ravens drive and proceeded to gain 23 yards to set Daniel Carlson up for the game-winning field goal.

Making Minshew's showing more impressive is the fact that Las Vegas got nothing from the rushing attack (17 carries for 27 yards) and pass protection was poor once again.

If nothing else, Minshew put more distance between himself and the bench moving forward after the Raiders shocked the world on Sunday. Now, if Las Vegas can just get more out of the offensive line and rushing attack, head coach Antonio Pierce's squad might be in business.
