The Indiana Fever were battling against the Dallas Wings in their final home regular season game on Sunday. After a back-and-forth matchup, Indiana came out on top with a  110-109 victory.

During the matchup, rookie sensation Caitlin Clark made WNBA history. She became the all-time leading scorer for a rookie and now holds the record for the most points and assists by a first-year player in WNBA history.

While the spotlight was on Clark after the game, the rookie decided to pass the credit to Fever star Kelsey Mitchell.

Clark showed high praise for Indiana's veteran guard, mentioning that the two have great chemistry and that she's proud of Mitchell.

"She makes my life easier out there," Clark said. "It's hard to pick and choose. It puts the defense in a really tough spot... I think we really just read and understand each other a lot better from where we were at the beginning of the season... I'm really happy for her and proud of her."

In the win over the Wings, Clark posted 35 points, eight assists, and two rebounds, while Mitchell recorded 30 points and one assist.

Throughout Clark's rookie season, she's been the No. 1 scoring and playmaking threat for the Fever.

Heading into the Fever's game against the Wings on Sunday, Clark was averaging 19.1 points, 8.4 assists and 5.8 rebounds per game. She led all rookies in average points and led the WNBA in average assists.

Clark has been sensational in her rookie season, and her tandem with Mitchell has given the Fever the most dangerous scoring backcourt in the WNBA.

Throughout the 2024 season, Mitchell has averaged 19.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

Given the rookie's incredible play, along with Mitchell's scoring ability, the Fever are back in WNBA title contention for the first time since 2016.

After the matchup against Dallas, they were listed as the No. 6 team in the WNBA standings with a 20-19 record.

Indiana will play its final regular season game against the Washington Mystics on Sept. 19.

I disagree with the author's assessment that CC is the #1 scoring threat. Mitchell hits shots at a higher percentage and has a higher PPG average at 19.4 vs 19.1 for CC. The two ARE The Splash Sisters of the W.
