Caleb Williams experienced his first regular-season loss as a pro on Sunday night, as the Chicago Bears fell prey to the Houston Texans in a 19-13 loss on the road. Chicago’s loss to the Texans was frustrating for a lot of reasons, but former Bears star running back Matt Forte isn’t going to let one loss diminish his confidence in Chicago.

“They fought hard,” Forte posted on X ( formerly Twitter). “I’m still encouraged. Gotta tighten up up front and we’ll be in business!

Williams couldn’t get the Bears’ offense flying versus Houston. He was bottled up by the Texans throughout the contest, as evidenced by the fact that he was sacked seven times for a loss of 40 yards. Williams completed 23-of-37 passes for 174 yards but had zero touchdowns and two interceptions. As a team, Chicago rushed for just 74 yards on 22 attempts.

There is still plenty of work for Williams and the Bears’ attack before they become a consistently reliable offensive machine, and as mentioned by Forte, it can start with the offensive line. That porous protection unit made life harder for Williams, while the quality of the Bears’ run-blocking left much to be desired after Chicago averaged just 3.2 yards per rushing attempt in the Texans game.

The Bears have days to make necessary changes before facing the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday, September 22, at 1:00 p.m. ET.
