Sadio Mane gesture to Roberto Firmino sums up former Liverpool teammates relationship

Former Liverpool teammates Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino showed they still remain good friends despite no longer playing together during a Saudi Pro League clash .

The ex-Reds forwards, who were part of the vaunted Liverpool front three alongside Mohamed Salah that won the Premier League and Champions League under Jurgen Klopp, both moved over to Saudi Arabia back in 2023. Firmino joined Al-Ahli, whilst Mane, who departed Anfield in 2022 to spend a season with Bayern Munich, is teammates with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr.

Last Friday, the pair faced off, with Al-Ahli and Al-Nassr playing out a 1-1 draw at Al-Awwal Park. Firmino's Al-Ahli took the lead on 57 minutes through Franck Kessie, but were unable to see out the contest when Al-Nassr equalised in the 99th minute due to an own goal from Bassam Mohammed Alhurayji.

Both Mane and Firmino played all 90 minutes, and there was a moment the former went over to help the latter to his feet during the contest, showing they still remain good friends despite playing for different teams now.

The two sides have endured a mixed start to the new Saudi Pro League season, with Al-Ahli, who welcomed the signing of Ivan Toney this summer, having won one, drawn one and lost one this term.

Mane and Ronaldo's Al-Nassr are yet to lose, having won one and drawn the other two games they have played so far this season.

On deadline day, there were rumors Firmino could be sold by Al-Ahli after they tried to land Toney and Napoli forward Victor Osimhen, only to realise they did not have enough foreign places in their squad to register both. In the end, the deal for Osimhen fell through, with the Nigerian star ending up going out on-loan to Galatasaray.

Liverpool.com says: "It's good to see Firmino and Mane still remain friends. The pair were instrumental in helping Liverpool to multiple trophies during the Jurgen Klopp era and will always be remembered fondly on Merseyside for their contributions at their respective peaks."
