This Chicago Martini Costs $13,000 – And It Comes with More Than Just a Drink

(CHICAGO) The most expensive martini in the world can't be found in Chicago. The highest-priced cocktail around the globe is the Diamonds Are Forever Martini one-caratsold by The Ritz Carlton in Tokyo for 2,000,000 Yen ($18,963.82). This drink comes with a live band serenade and a one carat diamond at the bottom of the glass.

However, Chicago does offer a very pricey martini. The Marrow Martini goes for $13,000 a glass at the Adalina Italian Restaurant on State Street.

What makes a drink worth thousands of dollars? The martini is made with Clase Axul Mezcal, which comes from northern Mexico and is made from the green agave plant.

In addition to the mezcal, the drink includes clarified heirloom tomato water and lemon basil olive oil. It's served inside a smoking cloche.

But that's not what drives up the price tag. Adalina has collaborated with the jewelry store, Marrow Fine, to add a tennis necklace with 150 diamonds in 14-carat gold to the drink.

According to CBS News, Adalina has sold exactly one drink so far by a husband wanting to surprise his wife with a very expensive gift.

For those with smaller budgets, Adalina's menu does offer other cocktails at prices ranging from $17 to $22 and includes options such as the Gold Digger made with Grey Goose, Liqr 43, Passion Fruit, and Prosecco.

The menu also includes the smoky tomato drink (without the diamond necklace) for $150.
