4 killed in multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 45 on Saturday

A four-vehicle crash on Interstate 45, about 10 miles south of downtown Dallas, resulted in four fatalities and significant traffic disruptions early Saturday afternoon.

Dallas police said a vehicle on the northbound side of I-45 collided with another vehicle near Simpson Stuart Road. The impact sent the first vehicle across the grassy median into southbound traffic, where it struck two additional vehicles. The vehicle then crashed into the guardrail and overturned.

Three people in the first vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Both drivers of the vehicles in the southbound lanes were transported to local hospitals. One later died and the condition of the other remains unknown. The driver of the second northbound vehicle was able to drive themselves to a nearby hospital.

The crash caused significant delays and the interstate was shut down for several hours as authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the scene.
