Netflix may want to consider switching Emily in Paris to Emily in Rome , as Season 5 of the blockbuster dramedy is officially a go .

The news comes shortly after the second part drop of Emily in Paris Season 4, which premiered last Thursday on the streamer. As Lily Collins’ eponymous character opts for an Italian adventure (and new man in Eugenio Franceschini ’s Marcello), her impromptu Roman Holiday is unexpectedly extended when Sylvie ( Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu ) asks her to head up the new Agence Grateau office there.

But she still has history — and some cliffhanger-like loose ends — left in the City of Love, namely in the newly minted Michelin star chef Gabriel ( Lucas Bravo ), who can never quite seem to get his timing right.

Already salivating at the mouth for a new installment the way one might over a plate of fresh carbonara? We’ve got you covered. Here's everything to know about Emily in Paris Season 5.

When does Emily in Paris Season 5 premiere?

Given the newness of the renewal announcement, no official release date is available yet (though we’ll make sure to update this post once it is). Based on the premiere schedule of Season 4, audiences can likely expect another two-part drop, on par with Netflix’s new business strategy to minimize subscriber churn and bolster viewership numbers.

With that said, Emily in Paris has largely been on schedule for annual installments, interrupted only in early seasons by the pandemic and Hollywood strikes last year. If everything goes according to plan, you can expect Season 5 in the early fall of 2025.

Who is in the Emily in Paris Season 5 cast?

    Lily Collins as Emily Cooper

No longer a stranger to Paris, Emily is now, in the words of the ever-wise-cracking Mindy Chen, stamping her passport, both literally and figuratively, as she travels across Europe and finds new romantic entanglements. The end of Season 4 finds her relocated to Rome, as she embarks on the exciting prospect of heading up Agence Grateau’s burgeoning Italian clientele, which includes new beau Marcello.

    Lucas Bravo as Gabriel

After a false start, Gabriel is now a Michelin-awarded chef, accomplishing a lifelong dream of his to reach the pinnacle of fine dining. While he begins Season 4 with a renewed dedication to Camille, with whom he believes he is bringing forth a child, the installment’s conclusion finds him longing for what (rather, who) he left behind.

    Ashley Park as Mindy Chen

Ashley Park’s Mindy was given more of a spotlight this season, as her character explored new professional opportunities and dealt with unforeseen relationship turmoil. While Season 4 saw her and her band embark on a journey to self-fund their Eurovision appearance, which led her to be at odds with JVMA scion Nicolas ( Paul Forman ), she ends the installment with a chance to remedy a career low point.

    Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu as Sylvie Grateau

As the head and namesake of Agence Grateau, audiences see Sylvie tap into a little bit more of that American work ethos (for better and for worse) as she expands her marketing empire to Rome. At the same time, the uncertainty of her marriage with Laurent continues as she engages in a cat-and-mouse game of who can have more extramarital affairs than the other.

    Camille Razat as Camille

Camille is mostly MIA in Season 4 Part 2, as news of her false pregnancy spreads to Gabriel and Emily. While she tries to mend her broken relationship with Gabriel, it dawns on her that she really wants to be a mother and, as such, Season 5 will likely explore her adoption journey.

    Samuel Arnold as Julien

After a brief stint at JVMA, Julien is back with Grateau. Near the end of Season 4, viewers got a glimpse of his personal life, with an official introduction to someone who is not not a boyfriend. It’s possible Season 5 will finally delve into Julien’s time outside of his work.

    Bruno Gouery as Luc

It seems a new romance may be on the horizon for Luc. After dating the fake Michelin reviewer Marianne, the perpetual romancer may have met his match with an Italian counterpart who is part of the team at the coffee company Bravazza. As Emily sets up her home base in Rome, it’s possible Luc will come to visit, for more reasons than one.

    William Abadie as Antoine Lambert

As an investor in Gabriel’s restaurant alongside Alfie and owner of Maison Lavaux, Antoine is not as present in Season 4. However, as Gabriel looks toward greater opportunities with his popular eatery, it’s possible Antoine will be part of the conversation.

    Lucien Laviscount as Alfie

With a limited appearance in Season 4, Alfie—now with a new girlfriend, a revelation that prompted Emily to burst into tears—may not be a significant part of the cast looking ahead to next year. However, in his last bid of advice to former rival Gabriel, he praises Emily as “the greatest woman in the world.” Could he still be pining, or is the door on Alfie closed for good?

In addition to the show’s main cast, Season 4 introduced guest stars Franceschini as Marcello, a fashion savant whose prized possession is his family’s company and legacy (and perhaps in the future, Emily?), and Thalia Besson as Genevieve, Laurent’s 20-something daughter who surpasses Emily’s mentorship once she begins complicating her work and personal life. Looking ahead to Season 5, it’s likely these characters will have increased roles moving forward.

There’s also Kevin Dias’ Benoît, who may rekindle his romance with Mindy, and Laurent ( Arnaud Binard ), Sylvie’s husband. Additional Season 4 guest stars who may appear in Season 5 include Sylvie’s friend and Rome-based interior design firm CEO Giorgio Barbieri ( Rupert Everett ), Marcello’s mother Antonia Muratori ( Anna Galiena ) and Giancarlo ( Raoul Bova ), Sylvie’s former film professor.

How does Emily in Paris Season 4 end?

Here are some high-level plot points from the end of Emily in Paris Season 4.

New adventure—and a new city— waits Emily’s exploration

Bolstered by her newfound spontaneity, Emily decides to dive into Sylvie’s offer to head up the Rome office of Agence Grateau. The final shots of Season 4 showcase her signing a lease on a chic Italian apartment, as she opens up her cottage-like windows onto a view of historic chapels and cozy terraces.

Emily has moved on, but Gabriel hasn’t

After some miscommunications (this is Emily in Paris, after all), Emily and Marcello cruise into a bubbling romance with the ease of the Vespa ride they shared at the beginning of Season 4 Part 2. Trouble is likely far from over, as Emily once again attempts to balance business and pleasure. However, with a cliffhanger-like ending, Gabriel’s Michelin honor forces an epiphany that his chapter with Emily is far from over, as he solicits Mindy’s help to locate where exactly Emily is located in Rome.

Mindy is asked back to “Chinese Popstar”

Fresh off a breakup of her own, Mindy pops up unannounced in Rome (as with almost everybody else in the show). As the two besties walk the intoxicating streets of the city, Mindy is moved to play the piano of a busking musician, unwittingly going viral when her song “Beautiful Ruins” enchants TikTok and Instagram. Now able to dream bigger than Eurovision, Mindy is asked back to “Chinese Popstar” as a judge, the reality competition series where she previously choked as a performer.

What happens in Season 5 of Emily in Paris ?

While no plot details have been revealed, creator and executive producer Darren Star told Tudum , “We’re thrilled with the incredible response to this season of Emily in Paris and excited to return for a fifth to continue Emily’s adventures in Rome and Paris!”

However, the TV legend (behind such shows as Sex and the City and Melrose Place ) quelled any ideas about Emily leaving Paris behind: “Emily’s going to have a presence in Rome. It doesn’t mean she’s not going to be in Paris, but she’s going to have a presence in Rome.” Star added that the decision to journey to Italy was to “stay ahead of the audience and take them to unexpected places” so that the show could “have a bigger footprint.”

For her part, Collins, when announcing the renewal news to Good Morning America today, said she is looking forward to the inevitable exploration of her character’s new relationship: “Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance. We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time.”

Star also said, “I feel like they have a real spark and a real connection and a real romantic connection. A lot of that’s going to continue to play out next season.”

But don’t count out Gabriel yet! Collins explained, “Unfortunately, Gabriel has to deal with the repercussions of his choice,” which is sure to play out in Season 5.
