Conservatives Blast Dave Portnoy for Supporting Weed Legalization in Florida: ‘People Without Kids Shouldn’t Vote’

A number of prominent conservative media figures took issue with Dave Portnoy telling his social media followers to vote to legalize weed in Florida.

As the early slate of NFL games were underway Sunday, Ported posted a video of himself smoking in his home in Massachusetts. He explained in the video that if he were in his Miami home instead, he wouldn’t be able to do the same.

“Half the states allow this — legal marijuana,” Portnoy said. “Florida, I wanna be able to watch football, eat pizza, and smoke! We’re all adults here. Twenty-one-plus, make your own decisions. It’s on the ballot. Vote ‘yes’ on three. Legalize recreational weed. Come on, where are we, Florida? Wake up!”

Portnoy was referring to Florida Amendment 3, which legalizes marijuana for adults 21 and over and also allows “individuals to possess up to three ounces of marijuana.”

The Barstool Sports founder, who recently announced he’ll also be voting for Donald Trump in November, was criticized by the right for the post.

“This is why single people and people without kids shouldn’t vote,” Jason Whitlock said. “We tend to think very selfishly with no concern for what we’re leaving the next generation. Married people with kids should be the only voters. We should prioritize families if we want to fix our broken culture.”

Matt Walsh also questioned Portnoy’s decision, asking him to “point to any state or city in the country where life has been in any way measurably improved after legalizing marijuana.”

“Where are the legalization success stories?” Walsh said. Give me just one please.”
