AMERICA’s worst-selling cars for 2024 have been revealed, with an iconic Lincoln and a budget-friendly Chevy on the list.
Research from Diminished Value Carolina has revealed the worst-performing vehicles and why they’ve struggled to find a footing in the American market.

Historically, several factors have contributed to poor sales, including high prices, lack of innovation, inadequate marketing, and stiff competition.
According to Diminished Value Carolina, the first reported flop was the Ford Edsel, launched in 1958. The car sold far fewer units than originally projected due to a confusing market and over-hyped expectations.
Biggest flops of 2024
First on the list is the Mitsubishi Mirage which has been criticised for its poor performance and dated design.
The affordable budget car which costs approximately $16,245 has an engine that struggles on highways.
Second on the list is the Toyota Avalon, which retails at $36,375.
The sedan’s decline has been attributed towards a shift towards SUVs, with consumers preferring higher seating positions, and versatility.
The third flop is the Fiat 500x has a niche appeal which has contributed to its poor sales. The compact SUV normally sells for $28,965
The car also has refinement issues and limited versatility which makes it less competitive compared to similar vehicles.
Coming in at number four is the Volvo V90, which sits at about $52,895.
The poor performance comes down to its wagon-shaped body despite its high-quality build, advanced safety features, and luxurious interior.
Rounding out the top five is the Hyundai Ioniq.
The hybrid car has faced stiff competition in the electric vehicle market and has failed to land with American motorists.
The mid-range car goes for $33,245.
Sitting at number six, is the Lincoln Continental at $46,305.
The classic luxury car has a comfortable and spacious interior. However, the luxury sedan car lacks some of the cutting-edge technology from similar brands.
Next on the list is the Jaguar XE, which sells for $46,205.
While the Jaguar boasts a stylish design, the car has a cramped interior – unlike other luxury car buys.
The brand’s reliability is also a sticking point for customers, who are concerned about long-term dependability.
Dubbed the “supercar killer”, the Nissan GT-R is eighth on the list of flops for 2024.
The car which sells for a whopping $115.435, lacks any significant update in recent years despite offering exceptional speed and handling.
According to Road and Track: “While the GT-R offers exceptional performance, its aging design and high-cost limit its appeal.”
At number nine is the Mazda MX-30, an electric vehicle that sells for $34,695.
The car struggles with its limited electric range and high price point despite its unique design and features.
At number 10, is the luxurious Audi R8 which sells for an eye-watering $158,600.
While the high-end car boasts a performance worthy of a supercar, its limited practically keeps it from being a popular choice for motorists consumers.
Bonus flops of 2024
At lucky 11 is the budget Chevrolet Spark which has a price tag of $14595.
The compact SUV has a cramped interior, lack of tech and a minimalist approach, while other vehicles offer a similar price range with better features.
At number 12 is the Kia Cadenza, which normally sells for $38,990.
The lack of sales comes down to the broader trend of moving away from sedans and towards SUVs.
Despite offering a spacious interior and comfort, the Cadenza has failed to make a mark.
The Cadenza also has to compete with other Kia’s such as Telluride, and Sorento, which offers similar features in a SUV form.
At number 13 is the Acura NSX at which goes for $157,00. The car is a blend of hybrid technology and high performance.
The car provides a balance of power and efficiency, making it a standout choice for those seeking a high-tech supercar with a distinctive design,
The NSX is designed to appeal to a small segment of performance enthusiasts however the market is crowded with alternatives from more prestigious brands.
