Father accidentally shoots his daughter in yard with bullet aimed at neighbor

A child in San Antonio, Texas, is in critical condition after police say she was hit by a bullet fired by her father that he meant for their neighbor.

Police say the incident began with a scuffle between two male neighbors during a watch party for a boxing match at 1a.m. Sunday. The neighbor reportedly refused to leave after getting into an argument with a woman at the gathering. She asked the father to intervene and he did by grabbing his gun.

He fired, police say, grazing the man in his shoulder and striking his 7 year-old daughter in the chest as she played in the front yard.

The man says he didn't know his daughter was in the yard at the time.

Media reports say the girl was rushed to University Hospital in critical condition, and the neighbor was taken to the hospital in stable condition for his shoulder injury. No charges have been filed at this time.
