MGK tapped Jelly Roll for his single “Lonely Road” which dropped back in July. Longtime fans of both artists were a little surprised to see the two in the same room let alone on the same track. They remember a time when there was nothing but beef between the two artists. They’ve since grown as people and, as a result, were able to set aside the hard feelings and forget about the multiple diss tracks that still live in their respective catalogs.

On Friday (September 13), MGK joined Jelly Roll on the premiere episode of the new Spotify podcast Countdown To. The new interview series acts as “the first introduction to an artist’s album before its release date. Artists sit down with a fellow artist or collaborator, family member or friend,” to talk about the forthcoming release. In the first episode the “Save Me” singer chatted with his former nemesis about his forthcoming album Beautifully Broken. During the conversation, they discussed their former beef and how they got past it.

The two artists started the conversation by clearing the air. “So, our beginnings were interesting,” MGK said, causing both artists to break out in laughter. “It is so funny how much I love you now because, God, I hated you so much back then,” he added prompting more laughter.

“I was just a little spiteful bitter f—kin’ dude,” Jelly Roll said. “I explain this to people. They don’t understand the concept because of our age now. Whenever I talk to my daughter, I’m like, ‘You’ve got to understand. There was only like seven white rappers on earth at this time. So, it was so competitive when you was in the pool that we were kind of automatically forced against each other anyways,” he added.

“For sure,” MGK agreed. “You were bred to hate each other.”

After talking a little more about their beef and the barbs that Jelly Roll threw. They revealed how they squashed their beef. “I had to call and apologize to you,” Jelly said. “You answered on the second ring and it was the coolest conversation I’ve ever had. It was so easy and just peaceful,” he recalled.

“I’m so proud to know you and I’m proud of you,” MGK said before getting into the discussion about Jelly Roll’s forthcoming album.
