The Washington Commanders relied heavily on their ground game to secure a crucial 21-18 victory over the New York Giants in Week 2. Running backs Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler emerged as standout performers, accounting for 221 of the team's 372 yards from scrimmage and driving Washington to its first win of the season.

Brian Robinson Jr. had a career day , rushing for 133 yards on 17 carries, including a 40-yard burst that set the tone early. Averaging an impressive 7.8 yards per carry, Robinson displayed the patience and explosiveness that the Commanders have been eager to unleash.

Austin Ekeler also played a pivotal role, gaining 85 all-purpose yards on 11 touches. While his potential kickoff return touchdown was negated by a penalty, Ekeler demonstrated his dual-threat capabilities, providing rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels with a reliable target out of the backfield and showcasing his effectiveness in pass protection. His early contributions have already justified the Commanders' decision to sign him in free agency.

While the Commanders did not score an offensive touchdown , they managed to control the game tempo and establish their running game as a central offensive weapon. Together, Robinson and Ekeler have accounted for nearly half of Washington’s offensive output through the first two games, positioning them as one of the league's most dynamic backfield duos.

Looking ahead, the Commanders aim to build on this momentum as they face tougher opponents in the coming weeks. Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury remains optimistic that with consistent production from the ground game, scoring opportunities will continue to emerge for a balanced attack.
