BRENTWOOD, N.Y. (1010 WINS/AP) — The Gilgo Beach Task Force in Suffolk County released new renderings Monday of a homicide victim known by investigators as “Asian Doe,” whose remains were among those found along Ocean Parkway more than a decade ago in what led to the Gilgo Beach murders case.

There have been no arrests in Asian Doe's death, and investigators haven’t linked them to the prime suspect in the Gilgo Beach serial killings, Rex Heuermann, 61, who was arrested last summer and since charged in the murders of six women.

“Unfortunately, this victim suffered a violent death, the cause of death was homicide by blunt force trauma,” Suffolk D.A. Ray Tierney said Monday during a news conference in which he asked the public for tips to help “give this victim their name back.”

While the existence of Asian Doe was previously known to the public, some of the information released Monday was put out for the first time, including the victim's likely ethnicity and the enhanced renderings based on anthropological reconstruction of the victim's skull. The renderings were released in the hope of generating new leads in the cold case after a more basic sketch of the victim was released in 2011.

The facial reconstructions were created by a forensic artist with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. They show what Asian Doe may have looked like prior to their disappearance and murder.

Asian Doe’s skeletal remains were found April 4, 2011, along Ocean Parkway in Gilgo Beach, but investigators believe they were killed at least five years earlier in 2006.

Asian Doe was a biological male of Asian descent—specifically of Han Chinese South descent—who may have identified as female and was wearing women’s clothing, according to prosecutors, who said they may have been employed as a sex worker.

They were between 17 and 23 years old at the time of their death and between 5 feet, 3 inches and 5 feet, 9 inches tall, with close-cropped hair.

DNA records from Asian people is less common in U.S. genetic databases, making it difficult to compare and identify the remains through traditional methods, Tierney said.

“This person certainly had a life and loved ones,” Tierney said. “It's important that this person get their name back and that their loved ones know what happened.”

Investigators seemed especially interested in reaching out to the many Asian communities in New York City who may have more info on the victim. The new posters were released not only in English but in Cantonese, Mandarin, Thai and Bahasa Indonesian. The additional posters can be found at the bottom of this story.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward up to $2,500 for information leading to the identification of the victim. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-220-TIPS or submit a tip online .

Asian Doe's remains were found between two victims who were allegedly killed by Heurmann—Jessica Taylor and Megan Waterman.

Their remains were not wrapped in burlap, as some of Heuermann’s alleged victims were, Tierney said. And while court papers show Heuermann made internet searches for transgender Asian sex workers, he has not been linked specifically to Asian Doe.

In addition to Taylor and Waterman, Heuermann has been charged in the killings of Sandra Costilla, Melissa Barthelemy, Amber Lynn Costello and Maureen Brainard-Barnes.

Since late 2010, police have been investigating the deaths of at least 10 people — mostly female sex workers — whose remains were discovered along Ocean Parkway near Gilgo Beach. Heuermann, who lived across the bay in Massapequa Park, was arrested last July.

He has pleaded not guilty and his attorney, Michael Brown, did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment over the weekend.
