'We Believe' Warriors on NBA List?

    By Lance Roberson,

Although the 2010s featured championship success for the Golden State Warriors, the 2000s had a year that set the NBA ablaze. The 2006-07 season catalyzed one of sports history's most stunning playoff upsets. A recent publication curated a list of the best teams of the 2000s. The Warriors made the list, thanks to the underdog team of the 2006-07 season.

Before Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, the Warriors had Baron Davis, Monta Ellis, Stephen Jackson, and Matt Barnes. Not only did the Warriors have an Al-Star point guard in Davis, but they also had a Hall of Fame coach in Donnie Nelson. Nelson's recent basketball success at that point in his career came from turning around the Dallas Mavericks and unleashing Dirk Nowitzki into the league.

However, after years of contention with the front office and Mark Cuban, Nelson left the team he helped lift out of the NBA's pits.

Nelson's philosophy toward offense aligned like the stars in the sky for the aforementioned Warriors core.

Ultimately, the Warriors and Mavericks faced each other in the first round of the NBA playoffs. The Warriors squeaked into the playoffs as the eight-seed, and the Mavericks finished its best regular season campaign in franchise history with 67 wins, leading the NBA in wins.

Nelson received his poetic justice by knocking out the Mavericks and helping lead the "We Believe" Warriors into the second round of the playoffs due to his inside knowledge of the Dallas franchise. His small-ball lineups also disorganized the opposing head coach, Avery Johnson.

Yardbarker ranked the "We Believe" Warriors last among the 20 NBA teams of the 2000s.

Although the "We Believe" Warriors planted a deep seed of love from their fans, they couldn't upset their way higher onto the list.
