Three Americans, two Spaniards and a Czech citizen were detained in Venezuela on accusations of plotting to assassinate the country’s leader Nicolás Maduro. Authorities also seized 400 U.S. rifles that were linked to the alleged plot to destabilize the country.

Venezuela’s Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello identified one of the Americans as Navy Seal Wilbert Castañeda Gomez and accused him of being the leader of the operation. Cabello also named David Estrella and Aaron Barrett Logan as the other Americans detained .

The Venezuelan government believes that the U.S. government is linked to the operation. A State Department spokesperson said , “any claims of U.S. involvement in a plot to overthrow Maduro are categorically false. The United States continues to support a democratic solution to the political crisis in Venezuela.”

The country is still dealing with the fallout from the presidential election in July, when Maduro won a third term even though there was evidence showing he lost by a landslide to Edmundo González.

Maduro has shown no signs of stepping down, despite alleged proof of the stolen election.

If the story is true then they’re on their own, we are not a country that condones this action unless warranted. This is an evil dictator that needs to be removed but that should be by his people. They could overrun the military and take him away. I don’t think Cuba sees him as an asset anyway.
