Police In Colorado Introduce Car-Chase-Ending Lasso Technology Known As “The Grappler”

This new police technology is straight out of an action movie. Everyone loves to watch a good car chase. Whether they be in real life, or play out in one of the way-too-many Fast and Furious films, there's just something about a car chasing another in hot pursuit that makes dudes say, "Hell yeah." The only people who don't really care for car chases? The police. That's why authorities in Colorado have opted to try out this new technology that is aptly called "The Grappler." Select patrol cars in the Centennial State are equipped with a web-shooting device that is effectively able to lasso cars that are trying to flee from the police. The post below explained a little more about how it works, how long they've been using it, and how many Colorado State Police vehicles have these contraptions mounted on the front of their vehicles: "Colorado State Patrol can lasso your vehicle to a stop with the ‘Grappler.’ The organization has been testing this Spider-Man-like technology for several years, but only recently started promoting it. According to the state patrol, there are 24 of these bumpers around Colorado, with 75 successful interceptions since 2021. The inventor, Leonard Stark, said he dreamed up the Grappler after watching a series of calamitous police chases on television." See? You can change the world by watching Cops on TV. And if you are still wondering how exactly the thing works, Sergeant Patrick Rice of the Colorado State Police gave another description of the device: "It just kind of unfolds and slips up under the wheel of the vehicle that we want to get stopped. Then it wraps around that wheel and just locks onto it. At that point, we can hit the brakes and bring that car to a controlled, slow stop."
