Power Bill Assistance Available for North Carolina Residents

    2024-09-17

GREENSBORO, NC - The Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) in North Carolina provides much-needed financial support for eligible households struggling with heating costs during the winter months.

According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, this federally-funded program offers a one-time vendor payment to help low-income families manage their heating bills, ensuring they stay warm throughout the season.

Households that include a person aged 60 or older, or individuals receiving disability benefits through the NC Division of Aging and Adult Services, can apply for LIEAP assistance from December 1 to December 31, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

All other households may apply between January 1 and March 31, or until funds run out.

Eligibility is based on income, resources, and responsibility for heating costs. Applicants must have at least one U.S. citizen or qualified non-citizen in the household, meet income guidelines, and provide documentation of their heating expenses, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Assistance is available through local Departments of Social Services, and applications can also be submitted online via the NC Department of Health and Human Services ePASS system.

LIEAP plays a vital role in helping vulnerable North Carolinians maintain access to heat during the coldest months, providing a safety net for those in need.
