Aaron Judge’s latest home run puts him in elite home run-hitting company.

Judge hit his 53rd home run of the season in the New York Yankees’ latest win. His homer gave the Bronx Bombers a 4-0 lead, as they would go on to win Sunday’s game against the Boston Red Sox 5-2.

The captain’s home run made him the fourth player in MLB history to hit 53 home runs before their 150th game of the season multiple times. Babe Ruth, Mark McGwire, and Sammy Sosa are the only other players to do so.

The Yankees’ outfielder has played in 148 games this season while leading the majors in home runs.

Judge set the New York Yankees franchise record with 62 home runs during his 2022 American League MVP season.

Ruth’s 60 home runs in 1927 stood as the major league record for decades. The Great Bambino also accomplished this in 1920, 1921, and 1928.

McGwire and Sosa were involved in a historic home run race in 1998. McGwire went on to set the single-season home run record at the time with 70 while Sosa blasted 66 of his own. Both players also hit 53+ homers in their first 150 games in 1999 while McGwire had also done it in 1997.

He is on pace to hit 57 home runs this season. Shohei Ohtani is the next closest player to Judge with 47 home runs. Anthony Santander is second in the American League with 41 homers.

Judge and the Yankees have 12 games left to play this season. They play their next game on Tuesday against the Seattle Mariners.
