Adam Schefter Predicts Russell Wilson's Immediate Future After Steelers' Second Straight Win

Nine NFL teams boast 2-0 records following Sunday's Week 2 action, including the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mike Tomlin's team kept a perfect record intact as the Steelers fought to a low-scoring 13-6 victory against the Denver Broncos on the road.

What's even more impressive about the Steelers' strong start is that they've accomplished it without starting quarterback Russell Wilson, who's recovering from a calf injury . Backup QB and fellow offseason acquisition Justin Fields has done well in Wilson's absence, leaving Pittsburgh fans to wonder who'll be under center going forward.

NFL insider Adam Schefter provided an update regarding the Steelers' QB situation on Monday, which likely seals Wilson's immediate fate.

"Russel's working his way back and as long as that's the case, Justin's the guy," Schefter said during his latest appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show." "You're not going to take (Fields) out of the lineup when you're winning football games."

Schefter adds that even though Fields' individual numbers aren't exactly eye-popping, that doesn't matter as long as Pittsburgh continues to win.

"(The Steelers) are winning the way that they should be winning," the NFL insider said. "They're running the football, they're playing unbelievable defense."

Even if Wilson were to fully recover this week, Schefter doesn't see the Steelers changing quarterbacks until Fields falters. It would've been shocking to hear that before the season began given that Wilson was brought in to be Pittsburgh's No. 1 QB less than a week before the team acquired Fields from the Chicago Bears .

But since taking over the starting job, Fields has played well under center. He's completed 30-of-43 passes (69.8 percent) through two weeks, tallying 273 passing yards without a touchdown and a 94.4 passer rating. He's also rushed the ball 22 times for 84 yards and two fumbles.

With Wilson still injured and the Steelers showing zero signs of slowing down, Fields is in line to face the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3. It won't be a QB-friendly matchup, though, given that the Chargers are allowing the seventh-fewest passing yards this season.
