The Chicago Bears are coming off hard loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday Night Football, with the offensive line carrying the bulk of the blame . Pro Football Focus put out all of the player grades for the game, here's the highs and lows from Week 2:
Highest Graded Player
The highest graded player for the Bears on Sunday night was linebacker Jack Sanborn. Sanborn had a solid game, starting with the first play of the game where he had a key pass deflection on a pass intended for Nico Collins. He finished the night with one tackle, one sack, two stops and the pass breakup. PFF gave him a 91.2 defensive grade.
Top-5 Grades
It's shouldn't be a surprise that none of the offensive players for the Bears cracked in the Top-5 for the highest graded players on the team. Instead, it was four defensive players who led the way and one special teams contributor. Here's the Top-5:
LB Jack Sanborn - 91.2
S Jaquan Brisker - 80.5
DT Andrew Billings - 80.5
CB Kyler Gordon - 75.1
DL/ST Daniel Hardy - 74.2
Billings might have deserved a higher grade after recording two pressures, two tackles, and one defensive stop. Gordon almost had an insane night but wasn't able to fully come down with an interception that could have been returned for a touchdown.
Bottom-5 Grades
The Bears surprisingly had two defenders who were among the worst graded players on the team in Week 2. Here's the list:
TE Marcedes Lewis - 35.1
DE Austin Booker - 37.6
CB Tyrique Stevenson - 41.5
TE Gerald Everett - 41.7
QB Caleb Williams - 45.1
Ancient veteran Marcedes Lewis was the Bears lowest graded player. He played 10 offensive snaps with one penalty in inside the redzone. Tyrique Stevenson had a really bad first half in coverage allowing 96 yards on seven completions. And finally, throwing two interceptions and having seven sacks equals a bad game for Williams.
As for the offensive line that struggled in Week 2's loss, here's how things looked for the starting five up-front based on PFF's grades and stats:
LT Braxton Jones - 61.0 grade, 3 pressures allowed, 1 penalty
LG Teven Jenkins - 72.7 grade, 1 sack allowed, 3 pressures allowed
C Coleman Shelton - 65.6 grade, 2 pressures allowed
RG Nate Davis - 52.2 grade, 1 sack allowed, four pressures allowed, 2 penalties
RT Darnell Wright - 49.0 grade, two sacks allowed, five pressures allowed, 1 penalty
Not a good showing from the offensive front and this will be something the team needs to desperately improve going forward.
