Brian Daboll heard plenty of criticism for how he handled his postgame press conference after Sunday’s loss to the Commanders, with many fans and analysts taking issue with his lack of a response to questions about Graham Gano’s hamstring injury and his job security now that the Giants are 0-2.

While some are up in arms with Daboll’s demeanor when speaking to the media, Tiki says those feeling any anger or frustration should realize who Daboll is.

“People are gonna judge him off how he answers questions,” Tiki said. “I have stopped even listening to his answers in press conferences…because he’s not saying anything. And that’s not a knock on him at all. I respect the hell out of Dabs and like him a lot. I know what he’s doing. He’s intentionally being obscure and obtuse. He doesn’t care to give us answers. I know you have to do it as beat reporters…but I know I’m getting nothing out of him.

“Understand who Brian Daboll is as a head coach sitting behind a microphone. He’s not telling you jack. Period. No matter how much you want to hear…he’s not saying anything. Period.”

Sure, there are things Tiki would have done differently when it comes to how Daboll handled the Gano situation on Sunday, but in terms of how he articulated his thought process to the media after the fact, Tiki got exactly what he expected.

“To me, this comes down to Brian Daboll being too loyal to his guys,” Tiki said. “You have to know that Brian Daboll asked Graham Gano, ‘How do you feel? You good to go?’ ‘Yeah coach, it’s just a little groin, I’ll be fine.’ So he trusts his guys…and trusting your guys is fine. But sometimes, it’s common sense that has to prevail.”
