Cat Discovers the Joys of Toilet Paper and Has an Absolute Field Day

Cats are always finding new things to play with in the house. Trash. A random milk cap. A string from a shirt. They can make anything fun. Dexter the cat recently found out that the bathroom in his house has this magical toy called "toilet paper." And, if he pushes it frantically with his paw, it streams down in ribbons along the floor and it's a blast!

A recent video posted on TikTok by Ashlee Kaznica ( @ashleekaznica ) shows the curious kitty giving all he's got to rid the bathroom of that pesky toilet paper. Watch him go at it!

The 7-second clip captioned, "I ain't paying for it, I just live here,” Dexter gets out every bit of energy contained in his small body to paw at the hanging toilet paper roll. He paws and he paws and he paws, happily emptying the roll with ease. Does he care? Not a bit. Is he having the time of his life? A million percent!

"'She's gonna buy more anyways,'" one person joked and by the looks of it, it's probably on Dexter's mind. This little guy is inquisitive, has energy to spare, and seems to be an all-around hoot (as long as there's toilet paper around)!

Why Do Cats Love Toilet Paper?

Dexter isn't the only cat in the world who enjoys partaking in a little TP destruction. It's something felines everywhere seem to be into, but why? Vetstreet says your cat could have an affinity for toilet paper because he or she is giving into their need to hunt, "imitating your actions," or just wasting time throughout the day when there's nothing left to do.

If you aren't a fan of walking into a heap of clawed TP, there are things you can do to curb the behavior. First, consider closing the bathroom door. Buying them an interactive toy will also curb some of their excess energy. You'll basically want to re-direct and distract them toward something more constructive. Food puzzles or hiding treats are two ways to help them forgo the bathroom shenanigans, or create toys from household items since that's what they're after to begin with.

If you've tried and failed to get your cat to stop shredding the TP, try giving them a similar alternative like a cardboard box with newspaper or a run-of-the-mill scratching post. Dexter may love these ideas or he'll keep daydreaming of his next roll of toilet paper. Either way, cats sure keep us on our toes!

OMG Inuse to take a roll of paper towels and purposely put it on the floor for my cats to tear apart. They had a blast and so henjoyed watching them. When it got down to nearly empty my boy would look through the hole from the other end of the room run towards it tho king he could fight through it. 🤣🤣🤣🤣😻😻 silly boy. I had and still have Gripper to pick up the pieces of paper towels. It was worth tbe -0 minutes to pic it up without bending. They lived to get old I miss them and would like to have those days with them back 💔💔
