Caitlin Clark has lauded teammate Kelsey Mitchell after she broke another WNBA record.

The Indiana Fever rookie sensation added another milestone to her collection this season as the Fever came out on top in the narrow 110-109 contest against the Dallas Wings in their final home regular season game on Sunday.

During the game, Clark made history as she became the all-time leading scorer for a rookie in the WNBA and also now holds the record for the most points and assists by a first-year player in the league’s history. Clark featured in 36 mins – the most of any Fever player – scoring a career-high 35 points and registering eight assists as she reached a new feat.

While Clark took the acclaim for her records and scoring the highest number of points of any player on the court, she gave enormous credit to Mitchell in her post-match interview. "She makes my life easier out there," Clark said of the 28-year-old point guard.

"It's hard to pick and choose. It puts the defense in a really tough spot... I think we really just read and understand each other a lot better from where we were at the beginning of the season... I'm really happy for her and proud of her."

Fever coach Christie Sides also paid tribute to Clark and Mitchell’s partnership which has fired Indiana into the playoffs since the league resumed following the Olympic break. Praising her belief and confidence in the duo to come up with game-winning moments, Sides said: "They are special.

“I mean those two right there can hit such big shots," Sides told reporters after the game. "There's just ice in their veins and they have got players around them who are helping them get open. You know, setting good screens and then moving the defense as well."

Sides continued that Clark and Mitchell’s ability to score in multiple ways makes Indiana’s offense incredibly difficult to contain. “I mean, Kelsey is, you know, with her ability to get downhill, you have to guard her a certain way. Then she can just pull up on a dime,” she continued.

“Caitlin is able to, you know get her shot off so quick and also get downhill and get to the rim. Those guys just make big shots. I mean, they are just two, you know, the dynamic duo. I mean, that's who they are.”

Following their win over Dallas, the Fever are sixth in the WNBA standings with a 20-19 record. Indiana will play their final regular season game against the Washington Mystics on September 19 before beginning their playoff campaign.
