Former WWE Writer Has Wild Theory On Why Shane McMahon Wanted To Meet Tony Khan

In what could end up being one of the biggest stories in pro wrestling history or mean absolutely nothing, Tony Khan and Shane McMahon met in person recently. Precisely, what the sons of billionaires discussed remains unknown, but the speculation is McMahon may make an appearance for AEW in the near future. However, former WWE writer Vince Russo has now suggested on his YouTube channel that this isn’t why McMahon really wanted to meet with Khan but was actually an attempt to find out information so he and his father, Vince, could go to Warner Bros. Discovery and secretly replace AEW.

“What if, under the tutelage, guidance, and wisdom of his old man, Vincent Kennedy McMahon, Shane McMahon has a meeting with Tony Khan? The point of that meeting would be to gather information. So what if Shane McMahon finds out all about the TV deal, what they were paid, what they’re offering, the whole nine yards? What if, under the tutelage and guidance of VKM, Shane McMahon goes to Warner Bros. Discovery, knowing all the numbers and all the facts, and says, ‘Gentlemen, give us a year. In a year, we will have a viable wrestling company. It’s in the works right now. Dad’s behind it, and nobody will ever know I am the face and the frontman.’”

    Vince Russo

Russo has previously speculated that Vince McMahon was really selling off his TKO shares in vast quantities because he was setting up for a “revenge tour,” which would see him launch a new wrestling company to compete with WWE in 2025 once his non-compete expires. Yet despite this being a possibility, it still seems far-fetched as Vince McMahon is almost 80, and his reputation is in the gutter following Janel Grant’s lawsuit allegations. And while his son fronting any new promotion would make sense, finding a broadcast partner and high-paying advertisers would likely become impossible if there were any suspicion of Vince McMAhon’s involvement.
