REO Speedwagon have announced they will stop touring after their remaining 2024 dates (get tickets here ). In an official statement , the band said “irreconcilable differences” between vocalist/guitarist Kevin Cronin and bassist Bruce Hall led to the decision.

“Bruce has intended to be back on the road again by now,” the statement reads, referring to Hall’s previously announced return from back surgery. “If it were up to just him, he’d be back on tour… but it’s not up to just him. The consensus opinion was that he had not recovered sufficiently to be able to perform at the level the fans have come to expect.”

The statement continues, “Bruce respected that opinion and is grateful that Matt has been around to keep the Wagon rolling through the summer tour. Bruce never had any intention of retiring or walking away from the band, fans, and crew he has loved for almost 50 years.”

With Cronin also having no intention of leaving, this led to an impasse: “Due to this complex situation, irreconcilable differences arose between Bruce and Kevin. So, it is with great sadness that we announce REO Speedwagon will cease touring effective January 1, 2025. Neal, Kevin, and Bruce thank their fans for all their years of loyal support and for giving back to the band such wonderful memories that will remain with each of them forever.”

Hall issued a separate statement through his daughter’s Facebook page stating he and co-founder Neal Doughty (who is no longer touring himself) did “everything in our power to try and keep the Wagon rolling.”

“I am so appreciative of ALL the amazing love & support,” Hall said. “You guys have been very vocal and clear in your wishes for me to return to the stage. Trust me… that’s all I wanted too. We all deserved a farewell tour.” Hall added that he had wanted the band to continue touring with “the lineup of Kevin, myself, Dave, Bryan, and Derek.”

After Hall stepped away from the road in November 2023 to get back surgery, REO Speedwagon brought in former Elton John touring musician Matt Bissonette. This left Cronin as the only remaining touring member of the band’s classic lineup during their summer dates.

Last month, Hall’s daughter, Sara Siders, hinted at the tension between her father and other members of the band. In a Facebook post saying Hall was ready to return to the road, Siders claimed the “powers that be won’t let him back out” due to not being able to “stand up straight enough.”
