Will the Atlanta Braves find a way to retain yet another star?

Atlanta has done a fantastic job targeting talent and bringing it up to the big league level. From there, the Braves have been great at locking up stars to long-term deals and keeping them in the organization.

The Braves will have to make another tough decision about a star this winter. Two-time All-Star Max Fried is set to enter free agency after eight seasons in Atlanta and is sure to be paid well. It's unclear if the Braves will retain him, but MLB.com's Mark Feinsand mentioned the Texas Rangers as a possible fit .

"Fried is one of the few homegrown Braves who hasn’t signed a long-term extension, putting him on track to test the free-agent market following his second All-Star campaign in three years," Feinsand said. "The left-hander’s 3.62 ERA through 21 starts is actually his highest since 2019, but Fried – a three-time Gold Glove winner – will be one of the top starting pitchers available this winter. Potential fits: (Chicago Cubs), (San Diego Padres), (and) Rangers."

Losing Fried would be devastating for the Braves. Atlanta does seem to have a surplus of capable starters, but Fried is a star and will be tough to lose. He made his big league debut with Atlanta in 2017 and has been with the team ever since. He has earned two All-Star nods, three Gold Glove Awards, a Silver Slugger Award, and helped lead the team to a World Series win in 2021.

Fried has been everything the Braves could've hoped for, but now the team will have to find a way to keep him but will have competition.
