    NorthWestern says Colstrip pollution control upgrade could cost company hundreds of millions

    They bought it because it is expensive to maintain. High maintenance expenses increase their profits. Their greed got them into this mess, and we shouldn't have to pay for it. The laws that regulate the monopoly need to change. The PSC, the corrupt balless wonders, won't say no. NWE needs to bite the bullet and put their staff to work on cleanup and prep. They should go after federal infrastructure money and make the leap into green energy. It would be way cheaper for consumers. They won't do it because it would cut into the profits they earn, maintaining facilities that use fossil fuel. They can rehab the building and use the existing power grid. Their net income for 2023 was $194.1 million, and they just asked for a rate increase. They are corporate gouging worse that any food producers.
