The Kansas City Chiefs head into Week 3 as part of the handful of NFL teams that remain undefeated. The back-to-back Super Bowl champions kicked off the 2024 NFL season with a thrilling 27-20 victory over the Baltimore Ravens before eking out a a 26-25 win against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2.

While Kansas City's offense has numerous kinks to iron out before facing the Atlanta Falcons , and need to figure out who's going to replace their No. 1 running back, Isiah Pacheco, who suffered a fractured fibula against the Bengals, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach made a major roster decision on September 16.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that Kansas City cut tight end Peyton Henderson on Monday, just two days after the NFL slapped the team with a hefty fine for his actions.

During the Chiefs' Week 1 matchup against the Ravens, Hendershot, who was inactive for the game, defended quarterback Patrick Mahomes after he appeared to take a late hit from Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith. Hendershot immediately hopped up from the bench to defend Mahomes and pushed Smith, who wasn't flagged on the play.

While Hendershot was personally fined $5,472 by the NFL for the hit, the league also fined the Chiefs organization $100,000 for the incident.

Before the 2024 season started, the NFL sent out a memo to every team warning them there would be severe consequences for non-active players and personnel acting out on the sidelines.

Considering the Chiefs traded with the Dallas Cowboys to land Hendershot just a few weeks ago, his release was a bit of a surprise. The 25-year-old tight end was active in Week 2, but his only snaps came on special teams.

That was their good excuse to get rid of an injury prone malingerer.
