NFL Eyes Punishment for Controversial Tackle on Joe Mixon

The Houston Texans 19-13 victory over the Chicago Bears on Sunday Night Football was a tense affair, and there was quite a bit of physicality between the two sides.

One such play led to an ankle injury for Joe Mixon, with many fans quickly noting he was the subject of a hip-drop tackle from Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards.

Mixon was able to return, but it is worth noting that the NFL said they were going to attempt to ban hip-drop tackles. While there wasn't a penalty called during the game on Edwards for making the illegal tackle, reports emerged saying the league will review the play and determine if any punishment is necessary.

Even though he returned to the game, Mixon was not happy with the tackle, and he called out the NFL on social media for their lack of enforcement of the new rule after the game.

With calls mounting for the NFL to actually do something about the continued use of hip-drop tackles, which frequently result in injuries like the one Mixon suffered, chances are Edwards will face some sort of punishment.

That punishment would likely only be a fine, but this situation will be worth keeping an eye on, as it could set the precedent for hip-drop tackle punishments for the rest of the year.
