DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines man has been charged in connection to a shooting that killed a 24-year-old early Sunday morning.

According to DMPD, evidence collected so far, including security surveillance video, revealed that a group of people were in the parking lot of a convenience store in the 1400 block of 2nd Avenue for an after hours gathering. Arguments between multiple people began, with one escalating into a physical fight, police said. Involved in the fight was 25-year-old Kyonta Lavon Taylor. Police said the victim was attempting to break up the fight when he struck Taylor, knocking him to the ground. That’s when Taylor allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot the victim, police said.

Taylor was arrested on Monday and charged with voluntary manslaughter and felon in possession of a firearm.
