The National Weather Service has forecasted cooler, unsettled weather for Northern California through mid-week, with periods of showers and isolated thunderstorms expected. Scattered showers, including light snow over the higher peaks of the Sierra, are currently moving through the region, primarily affecting mountainous areas north of Interstate 80.

Showers will taper off late Monday night, but another weather system will arrive by late Tuesday, bringing more rain and thunderstorms, particularly to the Sierra and adjacent foothills. Rainfall totals in these areas could range from 0.25 to 0.60 inches, with the heaviest rainfall expected Wednesday morning.

Temperatures will remain below normal through midweek before warming up by the weekend. Valley highs are projected to be in the 70s to upper 80s, returning to the upper 80s and low 90s by the weekend. Snow is not expected to accumulate on roadways, and dry conditions are expected to return later in the week.
