NFL Referees at Eagles-Falcons Under Fire Over Controversial Decision

The Philadelphia Eagles hosted the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football, looking to secure back-to-back wins to start the season.

During the second quarter of the game, with just over 10 minutes remaining, the Eagles were down 3-0 in a low-scoring matchup.

While Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts was looking to find an open receiver and spark some energy in the Eagles' offense, fans believe Philly was gifted a flag.

Hurts found wide receiver DeVonta Smith on a comeback route for a quality gain, looking to get into Falcons territory. Smith brought down the catch, but the ball was bobbled and some fans believe it may have hit the ground.

The referees called it a catch on the field, and the play was not reviewed, leaving fans infuriated by the decision of the officiating crew.

"Clearly not a catch, usual eagles ref situation. Joke of a league," said one fan.

"That wasn't a catch! Ref interference again," said another fan.

"I know im not seeing Eagles fans complaining about the refs after they got gifted a catch that wasnt one." mentioned one fan.

"Refs miss this catch by Smith that hits the ground.. Ealges go fast and get the snap off before Falcons can challenge the catch." explained one fan.

"Nah that’s crazy." said one fan.

"anytime an Eagles player breathes:" posted one fan.

Hurts, Smith and the Eagles came into the matchup looking to pick up their first home win of the season. Their Week 1 bout against the Green Bay Packers came in Brazil during the NFL's International Games.

In their Week 1 contest, Philadelphia came away with the 34-29 victory over what many view to be a Super Bowl-contending team in the Packers.

The early play in the game that favored Philadelphia may or may not have large implications on the final score. The Eagles struggled all night on the offensive end, especially in the passing game.

Part of this issue had to do with Philadelphia's No. 1 wideout, AJ Brown, being sidelined with a hamstring injury.
