California Airports See Some of the Most Expensive Rising Airfare in Fall 2024: OAK, SNA Named

Airfare at several major California airports has spiked this year, according to a recent study by SmartAsset. The study, which analyzed fare changes at 74 U.S. airports, found that Metro Oakland International Airport (OAK) saw the highest increase in the state, with a 10% rise in average domestic airfare from $276 in 2023 to $304 in 2024.

John Wayne Airport in Orange County (SNA) also experienced a notable increase, with fares jumping 8.4% to $408, while Burbank's Bob Hope Airport (BUR) saw an 8.1% rise, bringing its average fare to $309.

Despite these increases, some California airports, like San Francisco International (SFO), saw more modest fare hikes, with SFO's fares rising by 5% to $444. The report highlights the growing cost of travel as many airports across the country adjust to inflation and operational expenses.
