Calls Mount for Major Rule Change After Referees' Decision in Eagles-Falcons

The Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons played a back-and-forth battle on "Monday Night Football."

Atlanta's 22-21 victory featured intense controversy at the end of the game. During the Falcons' game-winning drive, quarterback Kirk Cousins found Drake London in the end zone to tie the game at 21 and give Atlanta's kicker a chance to attain the lead.

The Falcons' veteran kicker, Younghoe Koo, was getting set up for a chip shot to put Atlanta on top, but London received an unsportsmanlike penalty that pushed the extra point attempt to 48 yards. While Koo was still able to find the uprights, NFL fans were furious that London was called for a flag.

After he caught the ball in the end zone, London used his arms to mimic a gun and shot up in the air, which, by rule, is a flag.

NFL fans believe the referees could have cost Atlanta the game and demand unsportsmanlike penalties like these be changed.

"CHANGE YOUR RULES!!! LET THE PLAYERS SHOW THEIR RAW EMOTIONS. THIS LEAGUE IS SOFT." said one fan.

    "UNCONSTITUTIONAL FLAG!!!" said another fan.

"The NFL refs need to stop throwing flags for Touchdown Celebrations. Refs too involved over the weekend, again." commented one fan.

"I propose a new rule for the NFL: the officials throw a flag during every single play, then retroactively decide what the penalty is and on whom. That should liven up the game." mentioned one fan.

"NFL needs a major change when it comes to the amount of flags thrown. It's embarrassing." said one fan.

Despite a brutal hit by the officiating crew late in the game, Atlanta was still able to pull away with their first win of the season.

During the final drive, Cousins was showing why he has a nine-figure NFL contract. He led the Falcons downfield with ease. Cousins and the Falcons had just under two minutes and 70 yards to gain, and the first-year Falcon got the job done.

Cousins finished the game with two touchdowns and 241 passing yards, completing 20-of-29 pass attempts. His No. 1 receiver on the stat sheet was Darnell Mooney, who posted three receptions and 88 yards while hauling in a touchdown.

London capped off the Falcons victory with six receptions, 54 yards, and the game-winning touchdown.

The Falcons will look to use this momentum to spark a winning streak. They'll be back on primetime on Sept. 22 when they host the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs.
