Kendrick Perkins has been one of the most controversial NBA analysts since stepping into the broadcast booth following his retirement in April 2019.

An NBA champion with the Boston Celtics, Perkins has been criticized at times because of his no-nonsense takes and willingness to defend his positions with defiance and vitriol.

On Monday, Perkins was asked an important question that looms large heading toward the NBA's season opener next month.

"Which new face in a new place will move the needle this upcoming season?" Perkins was asked by the cast and crew of NBA Today.

Perkins did not hesitate, naming a former Brooklyn Nets star who is now a member of a fearsome foursome of ex-Villanova Wildcats with the New York Knicks in the Big Apple.

"I'm going with the New York Knicks getting Mikal Bridges," Perkins said. "Look, he could be what Jrue Holiday is for the Boston Celtics. That's how elite this young man is on both ends of the floor," the ex-Celtics starting big man said.

According to Perkins, NBA fans are sleeping on Bridges' status as a bona fide star in his own right. He's no longer the role player that he once was, and he's poised to lead the Knicks deep into the playoffs if everything falls into place.

"Just remember a couple seasons ago, he averaged about 26 points," Perkins added , along with the caveat that he didn't break the 30-game threshold.

"He's a guy that's an All-Star caliber player, and I think that was the best addition this off-season."
