Liverpool returns to action on Tuesday night as the Reds take on AC Milan in the Champions League, and Arne Slot could ring the changes against the Italian giants.

Slot refused to blame rotation for Liverpool's defeat by Nottingham Forest on Saturday, but he has named an unchanged team for three games running and several players looked flat in the 1-0 loss.

"If rotation would be the reason why you didn't win a game, then last Saturday probably wouldn't be the first game I lost in 2024," the Liverpool boss said during his press conference on Monday. "It's too simple to put this loss on rotation, I think it was because too many players didn't reach their normal level. The playing style of the opponent made it really difficult."

Despite Slot's comments, it would still be somewhat surprising if he did not make changes against Milan given the games are about to start coming thick and fast for his players. With the Champions League and the EFL Cup entering the equation, Liverpool will play two games a week until the October international break and it will be important to try and keep the players fresh for challenges ahead.

Dominik Szoboszlai looked tired against Forest and Curtis Jones could be due his first start under Slot after returning to full fitness. Cody Gakpo had an excellent summer with the Netherlands and will expect a chance from the start at some point soon, and the time could be right for Luis Diaz to be rested.

Diaz struggled against Forest having played twice for Colombia during the September international break, and it's only natural for him to be feeling a little jaded. Diogo Jota, meanwhile, is without a goal in three and could make way for Darwin Nunez, with the Uruguayan surely eager to get off the mark for the new season after a disappointing start.

Liverpool predicted XI vs AC Milan: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Jones; Salah, Nunez, Gakpo
