If the Duke of Sussex decided to reflect on the past ten years in honor of his 40th birthday, he had a lot to consider. Prince Harry celebrated on Sunday with his wife and children in Montecito, California, before heading off on a break with friends. Messages came from the Royal Family, who haven’t publicly acknowledged Prince Harry’s birthday for two years.

The Duke of Sussex stated, "I was anxious about 30, I am excited about 40," in the lead-up to his birthday this coming weekend. In a statement, Prince Harry said, "Whatever the age, my mission is to continue showing up and doing good in the world." He celebrated his 40th birthday on Sunday with his family in California before heading off on a break with a group of his closest friends. The prince also spoke about the importance of his children, Archie (five) and Lilibet (three).

    Harry’s journey to 40

After returning from his second tour of duty in Afghanistan with the British army, he turned thirty in 2014. He previously revealed in his memoir that he had been "going through a bad moment" after he returned, suffering periods of lethargy and "terrifying panic attacks."

Having previously stated that he was shocked to see war casualties and felt the public was not fully aware of the conflict's reality, Prince Harry founded the Invictus Games the year he turned thirty.

Not too long before he turned thirty, he broke up with Cressida Bonas, his previous girlfriend. Fifth in line for the throne, Prince Harry first met Meghan in 2016.

In 2020, he moved to California, leaving behind his life as a royal. There are no indications that he and his family will get back together after their contentious and public fallout.

There had been rumors in the past few weeks that Prince Harry would return to the UK permanently. However, those who are close to him have discounted that and assert that he is content and settled in California.

It is understood he would like to spend more time in the UK working with the organizations he supports, but security remains a sticking point.

Where do Harry and Meghan live?

In June 2020, Harry and Meghan relocated to California, citing their desire for space to raise Archie. In 2021, Lilibet was born there.

They received notice to leave Frogmore Cottage, a Grade-II listed home on the Windsor estate, at the beginning of 2023.

In April 2024, documents filed with Companies House listed the US as the country where Harry is usually resident, instead of the UK. According to popular belief, the couple officially left Frogmore Cottage on June 29, 2023, as indicated by the change in the records.

Do Harry and Meghan still visit the United Kingdom?

In August, the duke traveled back to the United Kingdom to attend his uncle Lord Robert Fellowes' funeral in Norfolk.

The Prince of Wales was also there, although the brothers reportedly did not speak to each other.
