Disappointing News: Bridgerton Season 4 Premiere Delayed

Netflix recently confirmed that actress Yerin Ha has joined the Bridgerton cast as the main love interest for Season 4. However, a recent update about filming and Season 4’s release date might not please everyone. According to an official Netflix announcement, Bridgerton Season 4 has begun production. New Cast, New Look

Fans will see some familiar faces in Bridgerton Season 4. Yerin Ha, who starred in Halo, Dune, and Bad Behavior, is the season’s star as Sophie Baek. Katie Leung, famous for her role as Cho Chang in the Harry Potter film franchise, will play the role of Lady Araminta Gun. She reposted Shondaland’s announcement on Instagram. Michelle Mao joins the cast as Rosamund Li and Isabella Wei as Posy Li.

In a new interview, Bridgerton confirmed expanding its filming locations on one of the newly constructed backlot of Shepperton Studios. This backlot showcases replicas of exquisite Georgian and Regency structures, including homes, buildings, Mayfair Street, and more. This milestone, eight months in the making, promises to envelop the beloved show in an even more delightful and authentic atmosphere of Regency-era splendor. The building spans approximately two acres, marking a new chapter in the series’ captivating journey.

Bridgerton Filming

However, Netflix reveals that what filming starts now will affect the release date of Bridgerton Season 4. If you recall, Season 3 started production in July 2022 and ended in March 2023. Still, its first half was released in May 2024, with the second half in June 2024. With that in mind, if production starts in September and goes the same length, it will end eight months later in May 2025. However, another long leap for post-production and release would be August 2026, two years after Season 3 aired.

Showrunner Jess Brownell explained that this is the new norm for Bridgerton, and they can’t move any faster. They explained that they try to work and put the seasons out more quickly. However, it takes eight months to film, and then it has to be edited and dubbed into every language. Writing also takes a long time, so they’re at a two-year pace, though they are trying to speed up.

This season will probably be broken in half again, so the series won’t end until September 2026, two years from now. However, while they hope to get the production time down for an earlier release date, that is not likely to happen.

Final Thoughts

Despite the news that the series will come two years later, this hasn’t affected Bridgerton fans as much. But this has heightened expectations for a better worldview into the Regency era. Season 4 is based on the book An Offer from a Gentleman from Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series, following the romantic journey of eight close-knit siblings during England’s Regency era. Showrunners previously teased that this new season would be extremely juicy, and that promise is something that wants to be fulfilled.
