Saints should sign underrated free agent for help at key spot, says NFL analyst

Right now, it’s pretty clear that the New Orleans Saints don’t have a ton of problems.

But keeping an eye on things like free agency, the waiver wire and even the trade block would be a shrewd move after the 2-0 start—fans know all too well that one injury can change the course of a season.

Along with that theme, Bleacher Report has suggested that the Saints go add veteran offensive guard Mark Glowinski right now:

“Left guard was a trouble spot for the Saints heading into the campaign, and Lucas Patrick leaving the season opener with an injury doesn't help matters. Especially with Justin Herron getting placed on injured reserve, the offense could use another veteran backup option at the least.”

What’s funny here is that Lucas Patrick was also shockingly one of the team’s highest-graded players in the 44-19 blowout win over the Dallas Cowboys—a testament to the effectiveness of this new offense led by Klint Kubiak .

Even so, the note about depth is an important one. Patrick already had an injury in the opener and he’s not likely to be the last Saints offensive lineman to have an issue over the course of a long season.

Glowinski isn’t the biggest name on the open market by any means, but he is a 32-year-old veteran and former fourth-round pick with 90-plus starts under his belt who could provide key depth should something go wrong up front.
