New Orleans Saints simply won't be denied in latest round of power rankings

The New Orleans Saints are not the top team in weekly NFL power rankings.

But the slingshot up the board continues and at this pace, it won’t be long before Derek Carr and Co. are in the conversation.

Exiting the stunning 44-19 blowout of the Dallas Cowboys that left Jerry Jones scrambling for answers , the Saints jumped another six spots to 14th overall in rankings from Sporting News’ Vinnie Iyer :

“The Saints marched into Dallas and took control with big-play passing from Derek Carr and dynamic playmaking from Alvin Kamara. That made things so much easier for a still-solid Dennis Allen defense.”

The fact the Saints had to jump this far just to be in the top half of the rankings speaks to how low and mild expectations were for the team in 2024.

And yet here are the Saints, with the first major scheme change in a long time on the offensive side of the ball, producing wonders. Klint Kubiak’s offense has totaled 91 points over two games, with Carr throwing five scores on 30 completions and Alvin Kamara sitting on 198 yards and four rushing scores on a 5.7 per-carry average.

Next up? The Saints get a Philadelphia team on a short week coming off a Monday night loss, providing yet another opportunity to make a big leap in power rankings.
