The Washington Commanders improved to 1-1 on the season after edging out the New York Giants 21-18, largely thanks to kicker Austin Seibert's flawless performance. Seibert, signed just days after the Commanders' season-opening loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, nailed seven field goals to lift Washington to its first win of the season.

Head coach Dan Quinn expressed his admiration for Seibert’s ability to deliver under pressure.

“It was really cool to know for a player who was not playing last week to come in and have the type of day he did; not easy,” Quinn said.

The veteran coach acknowledged how crucial Seibert's contributions were to the team's success, especially given the Commanders' struggles with penalties that pushed them out of touchdown range multiple times.

Penalties were a recurring issue for Washington, with five false starts in the red zone derailing their chances of finding the end zone. Quinn emphasized the need to eliminate pre-snap mistakes moving forward.

“The pre-snap ones, those are the ones we have to get rid of,” Quinn remarked on Monday. “I get it when there’s a combative one, or a holding, but pre-snap and post-snap penalties — that’s a no-brainer for me.”

The game also featured a standout performance from newly-signed wide receiver Noah Brown, who hauled in a crucial 19-yard pass from rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels and turned it into a 34-yard gain to set up the game-winning field goal.

Looking ahead , the Commanders face the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football, with hopes of building on their first win and addressing their penalty issues.

As Quinn put it humorously , “We’re definitely on to Cincinnati,” channeling the famous NFL quote, and ready to keep the momentum going.
