The Dog Who Guarded His Owner’s Grave for 12 Years

Dogs are one of those animals who are empathetic and will remain in your good and bad times even when your close ones will leave and that makes dogs our most adorable best companion. We have heard many stories about dogs’s loyalty but there are only a few stories where we see dogs being loyal to their parents even after their deaths. Sometimes their love for their human parents is so great that even when their parents are gone, they wait for them, and without any hesitation, they wait till they die. 

Miguel Gifted Capitán To His Son

Just like that, we have a true story about a dog named Capitán who loved his owner so much that while alive and after death he never left his side. The story goes back to 2005, when a man named Miguel Guzmán in Villa Carlos Paz, Argentina, adopted a German Shepherd and gifted that to his son Damian. But they never knew Capitán’s love for Miguel would be unbreakable and they would become best buddies. Capitán would follow, play, and go on walks and to the stores with Miguel and Miguel loved spending time with Capitán too. 

Miguel Passed Away

Little did they know that Miguel wouldn’t be with them after a year and Capitán would be all heartbroken. Miguel suddenly died in 2006 and when the entire family was grieving, Capitán couldn’t accept his beloved owner’s disappearance. Just a few days after the funeral of Miguel, he went missing and even after searching a lot for him, no one could find him. Around a week later, Damian and his mother went to his father’s grave and that’s when they were left shocked and puzzled, seeing Capitán lying on Miguel’s grave. It was shocking because they never brought Capitán to the grave and that’s why he never knew where Miguel was buried.

Day and Night Capitán Stayed At The Grave 

But it turns out dogs’ love and instincts are stronger than everyone. He found Miguel’s grave on his own and stayed there for years. His family tried bringing him back and stayed on the grave day and night. Capitán used to come home often but stayed mostly at the grave with Miguel. Looking at his love and dedication for the deceased, even the cemetery workers were touched and they also took care of Capitán over the years. 

Capitán Died Guarding Miguel’s Grave

For 12 years Capitán stayed at the grave and in the meantime he grew older and developed health issues but it never bothered him and he stayed put by the grave day and night in all seasons. In 2018, sadly, Capitán died and he died at the same spot protecting his beloved Miguel.
