Gio: Panthers benching Bryce Young could spell trouble for Giants future

The Panthers have benched struggling quarterback Bryce Young after just two games, turning to veteran Andy Dalton to try and turn things around.

Young, after a disastrous rookie season, is already looking like a brutal draft bust as a former No. 1 overall pick, and it could set Carolina back even further in its rebuild.

The news had some Giants fans wondering if Big Blue should try and trade for Young and see if they could get something out of the young quarterback, but Gio doesn’t see that being an option.

“I don’t think the Panthers are gonna give up on him that quickly,” Gio said. “I think they really would like Bryce Young to be good, so I don’t think they’ll wind up trading him.”

However, it could mean big trouble for the Giants in their draft hopes, as Big Blue looks like a team headed for a top draft pick, but if the Panthers are already benching Young, they could be in the market to draft another QB as well.

“This Bryce Young disaster could have a major impact on the Giants at the end of the year,” Gio said. “You’ll have another team looking for a quarterback in the draft that you never expected to in year two after drafting the guy number one overall.

“You thought they would never need a quarterback. They might.”
