While the No. 1 team in New York high school football remains atop the rankings after three weeks, there have been plenty of other major shifts underneath them.

Two new teams have jumped into the top 10, while four more have entered (or re-entered) the top 25, according to the Massey Ratings.

The On3 Massey Ratings , officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory. According to the model — four teams from Alabama rank inside the nationwide top 100.

    1. Iona Prep

    Previous Ranking: No. 1
The Gaels continued their arduous early-season schedule with a game at home on Saturday night against Bergen Catholic , the No. 1 team in New Jersey. After a season-opening loss to Delbarton School (N.J.), they responded by beating Springfield Central (Mass.) for a 44-20 road win last week. They weren’t able to keep the momentum going against the Crusaders though, falling 31-10. Hoping to get back in the win column, they’ll face 0-3 Archbishop Stepinac this week.

    2. Somers

    Previous Ranking: No. 4 (+2)
The defending state champions had to survive at home last week, escaping with a 40-35 win over Ramapo (N.J.). The Tuskers got another tough test over the weekend against No. 22 Yorktown, one which they snuck out of a 16-12 victory.

    3. Cardinal Hayes

    Previous Ranking: No. 2 (-2)
Cardinal Hayes picked up its first win of the season last weekend, beating Catholic Memorial (Mass.) 36-29 to get on the right side of the win-loss column. Week 3 saw them host a very tough Delbarton School (N.J.) squad, which ultimately rolled to a 36-20 win to drop Hayes to 2-1.

    4. Garden City

    Previous Ranking: No. 6 (+2)
After pitching a 42-0 shutout on the road over Bethpage Senior to open the 2024 season, the Trojans rolled to their 44th consecutive victory — a Long Island record — by trouncing Floral Park Memorial 31-3 over the weekend. They’re not currently projected to play another state-ranked team the rest of this season.

    5. St. Francis

    Previous Ranking: No. 3 ( -2 )
St. Francis traveled to Ohio last week, besting Cleveland Benedictine for a hard-nosed 23-17 win. They were back in the Buckeye State again over the weekend to face Ironton, but fell in a 56-19 blowout to the Fighting Tiger, who are now 4-0. They’ll look to get back on track against one of the Northeast’s toughest squads: Catholic Memorial (Mass.).

    6. Canisius

    Previous Ranking: No. 5 (-1)
Canisius rolled to a 14-point win on the road over Scranton Prep (Pa.) last week behind sophomore athlete Elijah Kimble , who collected four touchdowns, including a kickoff return score. They were back on the road again over the weekend to face Ohio powerhouse Washington , with the home team rolling to an easy 41-7 win.

    7. Shaker

    Previous Ranking: No. 9 (+2)
Shaker bullied its way to a 28-7 victory last weekend over Shenendehowa , entering this week with a top-10 defense in the state, per the Massey Ratings. They got their first road test of the season on Friday night again Schenectady Niskayuna , taking home a 35-14 win to move up even further in the top 10.

    8. Erasmus Hall

    Previous Ranking: No. 15 (+7)

After a tough start to the season that included losses to top-5 Cardinal Hayes and Pennsylvania No. 1 St. Joseph’s Prep School , the Dutchmen turned their fortunes around in a 48-0 walloping of Port Richmond out of Staten Island.

    9. Syracuse Christian Brothers Academy

    Previous Ranking: No. 13 (+4)
The Brothers have yet to allow a point this season, beating East 32-0 to start the season before easily dispatching Cicero-North Syracuse 27-0 at home on Friday. They’ll look to keep their winning ways going against Fayetteville-Manlius , a game the Massey Ratings projects them to win handily.

    10. Archbishop Stepinac

    Previous Ranking: No. 8 (-2)
The Crusaders opened the season with back-to-back losses to Maryland top-10 programs McDonogh and Archbishop Spalding to fall to 0-2. It didn’t get any easier over the weekend when they hosted the No. 2 team in New Jersey, St. Joseph Regional. Stepinac fell 43-0 to the visitors and now face No. 1 Iona Prep this weekend.
