The New York Mets have been an interesting team in 2024. After losing 87 games in 2023 and deciding to cut back on spending big in free agency, they were not expected to do much of anything this season.

However, the team owns an 82-68 record and leads the race for the third and final National League Wild Card spot. Various players have helped them defy preseason expectations and emerge as a legitimate contender in the National League.

This offseason, they could get back to spending more money and they could possibly look at reuniting with veteran slugger Justin Turner.

Many forget that Turner played four seasons with the Mets before taking off as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He never quite found his footing with New York, but as an established Major League bat, he could benefit them in 2025.

Jose Iglesias is their top utility infielder, and he could be on the move this offseason in free agency. Fortunately, Turner checks several of the boxes, as he can play three of the four infield positions.

The 39-year-old began the season with the Toronto Blue Jays before ultimately being traded to the Seattle Mariners. He's hitting .254 with 10 home runs, 47 RBI, and a .722 OPS. He could be a valuable bench bat, as well as a veteran leader in a young clubhouse if the Mets decide to bring him back.

Turner could also potentially retire, but it will be interesting to see how his market develops in the event that he wants to keep playing. New York might come calling for his services.
