Jaylon Johnson on the Bears defense: 'It’s going to be hard sledding when it comes to trying to score on us'

(670 The Score) The Bears defense played a strong game against the Texans in Chicago’s 19-13 loss at Houston on Sunday night, but cornerback Jaylon Johnson believes his unit could’ve been even better.

“It’s kind of still looking at it from leaving plays out there,” Johnson said on Score Afternoons on Monday evening. “Just being able to see it and dissect it – as good as that game was, it still could’ve been a lot better. Honestly, kind of just also tipping your hat. We gave up, I think it was nine explosives maybe in the pass (game) and six of them came on scramble drills. It’s kind of tough when you’re going against teams who get their big plays like that. Really just for us, it’s getting back to the details, always trying to stay detail-oriented, continue to work on our communication. But for the most part, it’s going to be hard sledding when it comes to trying to score on us, for sure.”

The Texans compiled 310 yards of offense against the Bears defense, which was particularly stingy in the second half. Texans star quarterback C.J. Stroud had 87 passing yards in the second half, and Houston rushed 13 times for just 35 yards after halftime.

Johnson added the Bears defense feels a responsibility to step up and lead the way as rookie quarterback Caleb Williams and a new-look Chicago offense attempt to find their chemistry early in the season.

“They’re trying to get better, trying to find their identity, trying to find where they want to be dominant and how they want to attack defenses and things like that,” Johnson said. “Really just for us, we’re trying to give them as many opportunities as possible, give them short fields, turn the ball over, really do what we can. Because regardless of whether they’re scoring or not, we want to be a dominant defense.”
