Pawn Stars experts ‘speechless’ after seeing a trophy friend gifted me – it’s worth $500k because it ‘shouldn’t be sold’

AN EXPERT was shocked after evaluating a one-of-a-kind trophy worth several hundred thousand dollars.
They even argued that the rare item “shouldn’t be sold” due to its storied history.
Pawn Stars’ Corey Harrison was brought the piece during a recent episode of the popular television series.
It was quickly revealed by the seller, Patrick, that it was none other than a 1978 Triple Crown Trophy.
The Triple Crown Trophy is awarded to a jockey who wins the Kentucky Derby , Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes with their horse in one season.
Only 13 horses have ever won the Triple Crown, the most recent winner being Justify in 2018, according to Sports Illustrated .
Many also know about Secretariat’s Triple Crown win in 1973 and the later feature film about the horse.
Patrick’s 1978 Triple Crown Trophy belonged to a horse called Affirmed.
FAMILY TIES
He explained to Corey that he only got the trophy because he works with the trainer, Steve Cauthen, and the family that owned Affirmed.
The family allowed Patrick to purchase the trophy a short while ago.
“When the opportunity came up, I went ahead and made the investment,” Patrick said.
Corey was baffled by the sight of the 1978 Triple Crown Trophy.
“This is huge. This is d*mn near the equivalent of somebody coming in here and selling me a Stanley Cup,” he told Patrick.
Patrick replied that it was “only a little more rare.”
“It’s a huge, huge deal. This is probably one of the rarest and coolest things that’s ever been brought to me,” Corey added.
“Forgive me but I’m a little bit speechless.”
Most Lucrative Pawn Stars Deals
The Pawn Stars have seen some incredibly rare items and collectibles in and out of the store over the years. Below are a few of the most valuable finds in the show's history:
George Washington Suit: $3 million
O.J. Simpson’s Getaway Car: $1.3 million
45-Foot Dinosaur Robot: $1 million
Jimi Hendrix Electric Guitar: $750,000 to $1 million
Signed Beatles Contract: $500,000
Where The Wild Things Are Artwork: $250,000
2,000-Year-Old Roman Coin: $150,000
200lbs of Silver: $111,000
New England Patriots Super Bowl Ring (2001): $100,000
Patrick wanted $500,000 for the piece of horse racing history, but Corey quickly brought in expert Dan Wulkan to confirm the value of the 1978 Triple Crown Trophy before making any deals .
“Unbelievable. I’ve actually never seen one,” Dan told the pair.
“This is supposed to be in a museum.”
He quickly verified that not only was the trophy indeed sellable, but it was worth Patrick’s asking price of $500,000.
Dan also noted that die-hard horse racing fans would pay top dollar for the item as well.
NO DEAL
Patrick and Corey negotiated back and forth, with the final offer from the Pawn Stars being $225,000.
The seller turned down the deal, emphasizing the need for a $500,000 payday, and walked away.
It wouldn’t be the first time an exceedingly rare item arrived at the Pawn Stars location in Las Vegas.
A seller recently brought in a “vampire defense kit” made by a famous English artist and valued at $15,000 .
An unopened “magic” deck also contained a special item inside, making it worth $150,000 to Pawn Stars’ Chumlee.
